PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve heat exchangeability by forming a heat transfer surface of a horizontal pipe for conducting heat exchange between an absorption solution and a cooling fluid to have a shape of a vertical wall, and arranging protrusions having a specified height at the absorption solution side of the heat transfer surface at specified intervals relative to the flowing direction of the absorption solution. SOLUTION: A horizontal pipe type falling liquid film method is employed for a heat exchanger of a water cooling type absorber which is used for an absorption hot water machine. The heat transfer surface for conducting the heat exchange between an absorption solution and a cooling fluid of a horizontal pipe 1 is formed so as to have a shape of a vertical wall. Further, protrusions 5 each having a height of 0.5 mm or more are arranged at an absorption solution side of the heat transfer surface at intervals of 4-8 mm relative to the flowing direction of the absorption solution. Thus, the absorbability can be improved by about 25-30% in comparison with a heat exchanger having a smooth heat exchanging surface. Further, when a surface-active agent is applied to the heat transfer surface for conducting the heat exchange between the absorption solution and the cooling fluid, and the heat transfer surface is shaped in the form of a vertical wall, with a film Reynolds number of the absorption solution being arranged to be not smaller than 40 and not greater than 50, the entire efficiency can be improved.
