PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a photographic emulsion having a monodispersed system in the distribution of diameters of projected areas and a high aspect ratio by mixing two or more liquids of silver salt solns. and alkali halide solns. under a specified condition. SOLUTION: Silver halide particles are produced by mixing two or more liquids of silver salt solns. and alkali halide solns. in a branched type static mixer in which plural supply pipes and one discharge pipe are connected with the center axes of all pipes meeting at one point under conditions of >=3000 Reynolds number and >=4.0 m/sec line velocity in the supply pipes. A soluble silver salt soln. is introduced, for example, through the entrance 1 of a Y-shape pipe, while a halide soln. is separately introduced through the entrance 2. After the reaction liquids are collided and mixed with each other to produce nuclei, the mixture is immediately discharged through the reaction product outlet 3. The discharged nuclei are transferred to an ageing and growing vessel 4 where the dispersion liquid is stirred by a stirring vane 5 to age and grow.
