PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical module which is simplified in arrangement structure, is reduced in the influence of the parasitic inductance by wiring, and is simple in structure and excellent in productivity. SOLUTION: This optical module includes a waveguide type optical element 2 coupled to an optical fiber 9 and an electronic circuit element 4 which is electrically connected to this waveguide type optical element. The optical module is particularly constituted by packaging the waveguide type optical element 2 onto this electronic circuit element 4 with the electronic circuit element 4 as a sub-mount and positioning the waveguide type optical element 2 via the electronic circuit element 4 to an optical coupling position with the optical fiber 9.
