A high-speed imaging plate X-ray diffraction apparatus of saved installation space type having an expanded range of 2 theta measurement angle and a high resolution, and easy to operate. The apparatus comprises an X-ray measuring instrument having an X-ray optical system (5) and a goniometer (1) and adapted for allowing a mounted single crystal sample (3) to diffract X-rays, a cylindrical imaging plate (21) disposed vertically to record X-ray diffracted waves from the sample (3) and covering a range of 2 theta measurement angle from -60 DEG to +144 DEG , a drive motor (11) for vertically moving the imaging plate (21), a transmission mechanism (12), a rotary reader (20) disposed coaxially with the moved cylindrical imaging plate (21) and adapted for reading X-ray diffracted wave data on the inner surface of the imaging plate (21).
