The lifter has a lifting scissor mechanism (10) for adjusting the height of a seat (2) relative to a base (1). The free external ends of the arms (12, 13) of the scissor mechanism are provided with sliding blocks (20, 21) mounted to slide along guide rails (22, 23) on the seat and base panel. The guide rails and the sliding blocks consist of plastic material and the guide rails are mounted on the base panel or seat with a snap-fit.
