PURPOSE: A thin film magnetic head and a method for making the same form a coil layer between core layers, and correspond to a narrow track by improving a shape of a upper core layer. CONSTITUTION: A thin film magnetic head includes a lower core layer(15) of a magnetic material, and a magnetic material upper core layer. The magnetic material upper core layer faces the recording media deposits a nonmagnetic gap layer(16) on the lower core layer. The upper core layer(20) includes a front end area, a center area, and a rear end area. The front end area(C) is formed with a track width in a direction of a rear side far from the recording media from the facing side of the recording media. The center area(D) has a larger width than that of the front end area, and is formed at a further rear side from the front end area. The rear end area(E) has a larger width than that of the center area. The thin film magnetic head forms a coil layer between core layers, corresponds to a narrow track by improving a shape of a upper core layer, and enhances OW characteristic. |
