PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect and control left/right print synchronism shift of page width when information across the page width of a continuous form is divided in the breadthwise direction and printed by means of a plurality of print heads. SOLUTION: In the left/right print synchronism shift detector for ink jet printer, first through fourth left/right print synchronism check mark strings 61, 62, 63, 64 are printed alternately on the opposite side tracks ST extending along the opposite edges in the breadthwise direction on the surface Cpa and rear CPb of a continuous form CP. A sensor means 70 detects a point at a distance preset with the first through fourth marks and each mark in the mark strings 61-64 is a block mark having length dimension along the longitudinal direction of the continuous form and width dimension along the breadthwise direction of the continuous form.
