NETWORK PROTOCOL CONVERSION MODULE WITHIN A TELECOMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM

PURPOSE: A network protocol conversion module having an application layer signal formed between a first SS7(signaling system No.7) and a second SS7 telecommunication networks is disclosed. CONSTITUTION: Signaling Connection Control Part (SCCP) parameters (310A, 310B) within a signal generated within a first SS7 telecommunications network (380) are converted into values and formats acceptable by a second SS7 telecommunications network (390) by a converter residing within an international Signal Transfer Point (STP) gateway (385). Such a converter (370) enables signals containing application layer data to be transported across two different SS7 telecommunications networks (380, 390) that are otherwise incompatible.
