The bed is at a temperature (T) high enough to cause mineral grains (M) to expand but not to melt them nor to cause the gangue grains (G) to alter, and simultaneously utilizing the difference in density between (M) and (G) so as automatically to separate them in the bed. (M) may be borax and (T) is suitably 110-700 degrees C.
