PURPOSE: A method for performing the improved message waiting function is provided to perform a message waiting function between the subscriber extensions in a private exchange. CONSTITUTION: In a message waiting function performing method in a private exchange which has a plurality of extension terminals and performs a message waiting function, the message waiting function, if an extension side receiving an incoming call is at a busy line state or has no answer while performing a massage waiting function, the extension side terminal's message LED turned on in response to an extension terminal of a transmission side of the incoming call is turned off according to a message LED lighting-off request transmitted from the transmission side extension terminal transmitting the incoming call. Thereby, the message waiting function performing method can be useful for removing a specific message leaved by a specific case.
