PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject skin preparation having a melanin production- suppressing activity and useful as a cosmetic material for a beautiful whitening agent by using a compound having a specific structure. SOLUTION: This skin preparation for external use suitable for a beautiful whitening, contains a compound expressed by the formula, suitably [1S-(1α,1aα,7α, 7aα, 7bα)]-1a,2,3,5,5,7,7a,7b octahydro-1,7,7a-trimethyl-1H- cyclopropa[a]naphthalene-1-carboxyaldehyde. Further, in order to obtain the above compound, it is preferable to, for example, add a solvent such as methanol to plant bodies of Aristolochia debilis, etc., belonging to Aristolochiacea, immerse for several days if it is at a room temperature, filter, then concentrate and purify with a method of a silica gel chromatoraphy, etc.
