PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new resin useful as a change transporting polymeric material for an organic photoreceptor by including a specific structural unit. SOLUTION: This resin contains a constituent unit represented by formula I [R1 is H, a(n) (un)substituted alkyl or the like; Ar1, Ar2, Ar4 and Ar5 are each a(n) (un)substituted arylene; Ar3 is a(n) (un)substituted aryl]. The objective polymer is obtained by a method for carrying out the transesterification of a diol represented by formula II and having a charge transport ability with, e.g. a bisaryl carbonate, a method, etc., for a solution or a melt polymerization thereof with a halogenated carboxyl compound such as phosgene. When the diol represented by formula II is used with a diol represented by the formula: HO-X-OH (X is an aliphatic bivalent group, an aromatic bivalent group or the like), a copolymer improved in mechanical characteristics, etc., can preferably be obtained. Bis(4-hydroxyphenl)methane, etc., are preferred as the diol.
