Acyclic α,#-unsaturated monocarboxylic acid chlorides are prepared by reacting an acyclic α,#-unsaturated monoaldehyde with chlorine in the presence of a chlorinated and/or fluorinated hydrocarbon as diluent. The reaction may be conducted in the presence of oxygen, a lead alkyl, a boron alkyl, a boric acid ester of a C 1-4 monohydric alcohol, or a carbonyl of a Group VIII metal, these materials acting as reaction regulators. |
