<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a muscone that has a musk smell and is useful for perfume compositions for feeds, beverage, perfumes and the like by allowing a specific halogenated unsaturated hydrocarbon with a specific citronellal. SOLUTION: A halogenated unsaturated hydrocarbon of formula I (X is a halogen) is allowed to react with citronellal of formula II (* means asymmetric carbon) to form 11-hydroxy-13,17-dimethyloctadeca-1,16-diene, the hydroxyl group of the product is protected with a protecting group to give a derivative of formula III (Y is a protecting group), and it is further ozonized to convert is into 6-hydroxy-14-formyl-4-methyltetradecanal derivative. This derivative is methylenated to a derivative of formula IV, deprotected, and the hydroxyl group deprotected is oxidized to give 5-methylheptadeca-1,16-diene-7-one. The resultant diene-ketone is ring-closed into dehydromuscone followed by hydrogenation of the olefin linkages to the objective muscone of formula V.</p> |
