PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject composition useful as a therapeutic agent for diabetes by including a calcium salt of benzylsuccinic acid derivative as an active ingredient. SOLUTION: This composition is obtained by including (A) a calcium salt of a benzylsuccinic acid derivative represented by the formula or its hydrate as an active ingredient and preferably further (B) silicon dioxide (e.g. light anhydrous silicic acid) or (C) a partially pregelanized starch. The ingredient B is preferably contained in an amount of 0.5-5 wt.% and the ingredient C is preferably contained in an amount of 5-20 wt.% as the whole preparation in the composition. An excipient (e.g. a crystalline cellulose), a binder (e.g. hydroxypropyl cellulose), a surfactant (e.g. a sucrose ester of a fatty acid), a lubricant (e.g. stearic acid), a fluidizing agent (e.g. a dry aluminum hydroxide gel), a coating agent (e.g. polyvinyl acetal diethylaminoacetate), a plasticizer (e.g. triethyl citrate), etc., as necessary, can be contained therein.
