PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inverter which can prevent breakdown of a switching element or malfunction for detection of short-circuiting through management of minimum OFF pulse. SOLUTION: An inverter comprises an inverter circuit having an inverse converting means 4 to convert a DC power to an AC power and a control means 5 for outputting a logical drive ON/OFF signal to control the AC power to the high speed switching elements S1, S2..., S6 drive circuits R1, R2,..., R6 of the high speed switching elements S1, S2,..., S6 and the drive circuits R1, R2,..., R6. The control means 5 sets the minimum value of the logical drive OFF time of the high speed switching elements S1, S2,..., S6 to the predetermined value.
