PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To guarantee the security of image data managed in a database and to avoid malfunction due to differences in management code between different kind of devices by enabling a user to erase an arbitrary area of image data when copying them. SOLUTION: This device is equipped with a display 209 which displays image data inputted by a scanner, a pointing device 208 for specifying an image area of the displayed image data and inputting its area information, an editing process circuit 214 which performs an editing process for the specified image area, and a network card 207 which transfers the image data inputted by the scanner to an external device through a network. Here, the editing processing circuit 214 applies the image processing for the image area specified by the pointing device only to the image data to be transferred through the network.
