PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer device which is adapted to respective user environments by providing a means which downloads only necessary information onto a rewritable storage medium in a system device with a file server function by issuing a download request command to the system device through a communication network. SOLUTION: A controller 100 alters the basic control of a controller part, corresponding system control, and corresponding interface control by downloading a system program from a host computer 112 or external system device 118 connected to the same communication network. Further, the entire or some specific part of a boot ROM 104 is downloaded or uploaded with a communication control command from the host computer 112 or external system device 118.
