PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for driving a motor, capable of reducing current flow through a motor at the time of starting, and vibration thereof. SOLUTION: This apparatus for driving a motor is provided with a position detecting part 17 detecting the position of the rotor 12a of a brushless DC motor, a DC-AC converting part 13 which converts DC voltage from DC power supply 11 into AC, a control part 19 which controls the DC-AC converting part 13 and energizing the armature winding 12b of the brushless DC motor. The control part 19 passes current, at the time of starting the brushless DC motor 12, energizing the first energizing phase of the armature winding 12b to locate the rotor 12a and stops the energizing temporarily. Then the control part 19 energizes the second energizing phase of the armature winding 12b to rotate the rotor 12b, and controls the DC-AC converting part 13 so as to start position detecting operation after the prescribed time has elapsed since the rotor 12b started its rotation. |
