PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a data amount at the time of transmitting image signals and at the time of storing them in a storage medium, to prevent degradation of image quality from occurring after performing a color processing and to provide the images of high quality. SOLUTION: This image signal processing method for processing the image signals outputted from an image pickup element 11 is provided with a compression process for executing an information compression processing to the image signals without performing the color correction of at least white balance correction orγcorrection or the like, and an expansion process for executing an information expansion processing to the image signals to which the information compression processing has been performed. A color processing is performed after the information compression and expansion processings are finished. Block noise and high frequency noise accompanying the compression and expansion of image data are prevented from being generated after performing the color processing to the image signals.
