A dye-receiving element for thermal dye transfer, comprising a support having on its front side, in order, a biaxially oriented composite film laminated to it and a dye image-receiving layer, the composite film comprising a microvoided thermoplastic core layer and substantially void-free thermoplastic surface layer(s), the support having on its other side a biaxially oriented transparent film laminated to it which has light transmission of >= 70%, thickness ratio transparent film/composite film being 0.45 - 0.75. Also claimed are: (1) formation of a dye transfer image, comprising: (a) imagewise-heating a dye-donor element comprising a support having on it a dye layer comprising a dye dispersed in a binder; and (b) transferring a dye image to the above dye-receiving element to form the dye transfer image; and (2) a thermal dye transfer assemblage comprising: (a) a dye-donor element comprising a support having on it a dye layer comprising a dye dispersed in a binder; and (b) the above dye-receiving element comprising a support having thereon a dye image -receiving layer, positioned so that the dye layer is in contact with the dye image-receiving layer. |
