A four stroke IC engine has shaped recesses (10) in the top of each piston to form combustion chambers and into which the fuel is injected in the suction phase, after the exhaust valves are closed. The fuel mixes with residual exhaust gasses in the recesses for improved vaporization independent of the actual temperature of the piston and the cylinder wall. In the following compression cycle the fuel and gas mixture is mixed with the input air and is ignited near to TDC. The fuel is injected after the respective exhaust valve is closed and is completed by at least 40 degrees after TDC. |
