PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the metal base composite material having a sliding face which prevents a reinforced particle/a reinforced fiber from exposing to a surface of a metal base composite material, which reduces wear of a sliding member to slide on a metal base composite member, and which is excellent at machinability of a sliding face/plating adhesion and which has lightweight/high strength. SOLUTION: A thin film layer 42 of a matrix metal M is formed on a sliding face side of a metal base composite parts 43, 43F in which the matrix metal M is impregnated into a preform for reinforcement. The metal base composite member having a sliding face 6 is formed with the matrix metal thin film layer 42 in contact with a sliding member.
