PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a handle device with which the door of a container exerted with internal pressure can be opened as the internal pressure is relieved. SOLUTION: A handle device 3 for opening and closing a door comprises a handle 6 attached to the door 2 and an engagement member 7 attached to a fixed frame 1. An engagement projection is formed on the arm member 11 of the handle 6 and the engagement member 7 has an inner engagement plate 18 against which the projection can abut from inside the door 2 and an outer engagement plate 19. First and second grooved parts 21, 22 through which the projection 31 can pass are formed in different positions of the inner and outer engagement plates 18, 19.
