PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently desulfurize high concentration sulfur oxides contained in a gas. SOLUTION: A high concentration oxygen containing gas having an oxygen concentration of 35 vol.% or higher is supplied to an oxidation tower 120 through an oxygen line 32 and a gas containing unreacted oxygen from the oxidation column 120 is guided into a mixer 150 installed in a lower part of an absorption tower 100 and turned into bubbles and simultaneously mixed with an absorbing solution 102 so as to oxidize calcium sulfite in the absorbing solution 102.
