PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect loading of ink cartridge. SOLUTION: Detection pieces 13, 14 having reflective members 17, 18 on the surface and being displaced rotationally upon loading ink cartridges 9, 10 are formed in the moving path of a carriage 1 in a cartridge holder 11. A cartridge detecting means 21 for receiving reflected light from the reflective members 17, 18 is disposed oppositely to the moving path of the reflective members 17, 18 and variation in the quantity of light caused by presence/absence of the ink cartridges 9, 10 is detected. |
