PURIFICATION OF BENZOTHIOPHENE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrial purification method capable of efficiently obtaining highly pure benzothiophene from a benzothiophene mixture containing impurities. SOLUTION: This method for purifying benzothiophene comprises recrystallizing the benzothiophene containing impurities in a 1-8C alcohol or a mixture of the 1-8C alcohol with water as a recrystallization solvent. Therein, the alcohol-water mixture having a water concentration of <=30 wt.% is preferably used as the recrystallization solvent.
