PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the tool coated with the high toughness hard laminated coating having improved toughness without lowering wear resistance of the hard film while maintaining heat resistance. SOLUTION: The tool coated with the high toughness hard laminated coating is produced by repeatedly and alternately laminating an inner layer 34 having the composition of Ti(XC1-X) (wherein 0.5<=X<=1.0) and an average thickness of 0.01-0.40μm and an outer layer 36 having the composition of (AlYTi1-Y)(NzC1-Z) (wherein 0.20<=Y⊖0.80, 0.50<=Z<=1.00) and an average thickness of 0.01-0.40μm to provide the high toughness hard laminated coating 38 on a surface of a substrate 32, while adjusting the total average thickness D1 of the laminated coating 38 to be in the range of 0.5-10.0μm.
