ABSORBENT FOR HALIDE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove halides in reducing gas efficiently by preparing an absorbent for reducing halides contained in the reducing gas by incorporating at least alkali aluminate as a halide absorbing component. SOLUTION: A dry absorbent for absorbing halides in high temperature reducing gas is prepared by incorporating alkali aluminate which is a complex oxide of an alkali metal and aluminum oxide as a halide absorbing component. Sodium aluminate is used preferably as the alkali metal, and a mixture of sodium aluminate and sodium carbonate is used as the absorbing component. Preferably the absorbent contains a heat resistant base material. Preferably, at least 10 wt.% of an absorbent comprising a mixture of sodium aluminate and sodium carbonate is incorporated.
