PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extremely improve emission control of exhaust gas by simply improving a muffler used for a small engine. SOLUTION: A muffler is provided with a first expanding chamber 12 for exhaust gas having an exhaust gas inlet 11 connected to an exhaust port of an engine, and a second expanding chamber 14 having an exhaust gas outlet 13, a first exhaust gas cleaner 16 formed in such a constitution that at least recessed surface 16a in a recessed base body on which a plurality of circulating holes 16b is drilled on the recessed surface 16a is coated with a catalyst 16c for cleaning exhaust gas, arranged in the first expanding chamber 12 so as to face the recessed surface 16a to the exhaust gas inlet 11. At least one of second exhaust gas cleaner 15 is arranged between the first expanding chamber 12 and the second expanding chamber 14, and is formed in such a constitution that a base body having a large number of cylindrical holes are coated with a catalyst for cleaning exhaust gas.
