PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the cooling ability of a plunger. SOLUTION: In this plunger for molding a gob which is introduced into a coarse frame into a parison in producing a glass bottle by a press and blow method, gear-like grooves 2 are formed in the inside of the plunger, the depth (d) of the grooves 2 is substantially >=2 mm and the pitch (p) of the grooves is substantially <=2 mm so as to enlarge the surface area of the grooves. This method for producing the plunger comprises filling a wax into a mold to give a wax model, optionally coating the model with a preliminary coating agent and then a mold material to produce a mold, eluting the wax from the mold to complete the mold and casting glass by the mold. The inner area is approximately doubled by the grooves 2 and the average surface temperature is dropped by about 90 deg.C.
