PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method of error correction for magnetic reading and writing device is provided to obtain good display quality although the number of synch block occurring error exceed in error correction limits or a synch block number is wrong by a burst error, and to improve the display quality by replacing the defected data by the same synch block data of the previous scene. CONSTITUTION: The present invention contains an amplifying part that amplify a playing signal from a head to a arbitrary level, data detection part that detects digital data from amplified signals, synchronization data detection part that detects standard signals from detected digital signals, an area detection part that detects audio data, video data and data of auxiliary information of a track based on the detected synchronization signals, drop-out detection part that outputs the drop-out signal in case that the output signals from the amplifying part is lower than an arbitrary output level when we compare the output signals from the amplifying part and an arbitrary output level, the ECC part that corrects the errors of out-signals in comparison with the maximum error correction sync-block numbers in according to drop-out pluses from drop-out detection part after correcting errors in according to inter-signals or outputs substitutions of prior image in case of being hard to correct errors.
