PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing a color EL display device having good strength of adhesion by packing a thermosetting resin between a color filter substrate and an EL(electroluminescence) element substrate over the entire surface without generating air bubbles. SOLUTION: The one surface 24a of the EL element substrate 24 is provided with EL element parts 23. These EL element parts 23 are protected by a protective sealing part 25. A recess 44 is formed by etching at the EL element substrate 24 on the side opposite to the side provided with the EL element parts 23 in such a manner that its peripheral edge remains to a frame shape. At the time of adhering and fixing the EL element 21 and color filters 32, the thermosetting resin is dropped to a projecting shape to the other surface 24b of the EL element substrate 24 and the color filter substrate 22 and the EL element substrate 24 are brought into tight contact with each other to force spread the resin 33 between the color filters 32 and the EL element substrate 24, by which the resin is packed between the substrates. As a result, the resin may be packed between the substrates without generating the air bubbles.
