PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve an appropriate operation of a device by disposing a photodiode and an overflow drain element in the same chip, the photodiode acting as a photoelectric converting element, and the overflow drain element controlling an overflow drain level in accordance with an amount of saturated charge of the photodiode. SOLUTION: A block consists of a sensor 10 including a photoelectric converting element, a read only memory(ROM) 11 for memorizing sensor output information applied from the sensor 10, and an overflow drain(OFD) element 12 for controlling the sensor 10. The block is disposed on a sensor chip 9. A sensor output appearing upon emitting light on the sensor 10 is detected outside the sensor chip 9, the amount of accumulable saturation charge in a photodiode is detected, and then, information based on the output of the amount of the saturation charge is written in a ROM 11. When the sensor 10 is actually operated, an OFD level is inputted to an OFD element 12 based on the information on the amount of saturation charge, that has been written in the ROM 11, so as to control the amount of saturation charge by the OFD element 12.
