PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a smaller magneto-optical head device with good mass- productivity. SOLUTION: Diffracting element 14b composing an magneto-optical head device consists of anisotropic gratings 112 of an optical anisotropic medium, and the cross-section of the gratings is asymmetrically sawtoothed or stepped, and at least groove part of the gratings is filled with isotropic filler 111 of optical isotropic medium, and the refractive index of the isotropic filler 111 is an intermediate value between the refractive index of ordinary ray and that of extraordinary ray of the anisotropic gratings 112. |
