<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively utilize a frequency band reserved for signaling for transfer communication information by setting a signaling virtual channel SVC as required only with respect to the ATM exchange system to set a communication channel according to signaling information by the SVC. SOLUTION: A signaling virtual path identifier VPI and a virtual channel identifier VCI are selected on the occurrence of a call connection request from subscriber terminals 17-19 or in the case of informing a subscriber terminal of the arrival of an incoming call to set a signaling SVC between the subscriber terminal and a signal controller 15. Then a communication channel of an ATM switch 14 is set according to the signaling information sent/received by this SVC and the signaling SVC is released after the communication channel is set.</p> |
