PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a current limiter from marring the stability of the system at normal times without short-circuit accidents, and obtain required current- limiting effect, according to the power system, where a current limiter is installed. SOLUTION: For this current limiter, AC terminals 12 and 13 of a single- phase diode bridge circuit 11 are connected in series with a power system, and a DC reactor 16 is connected between DC terminals 14 and 15 of the single- phase diode bridge circuit 11. In this case, the value being obtained by dividing the current limiting time for continuing the current limiting effect by the current limiting target value which is the current limiting ratio obtained by dividing the current limitation target value at short-circuit accident by the short-circuit current, when there is no current limiter, and multiplying it by the short circuit impedance of a power system, and this is made the inductance of the DC reactor 16.
