PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device, allowing accurate arrangement of a supporting member supporting a face plate at a predetermined position. SOLUTION: Plural supporting members 30 to support the atmospheric pressure are formed between a face plate 1 and a rear plate 3 of a vacuum envelope. The tip surface of each of the supporting members abuts on the inside surface of he face plate 1 through a phosphor screen 7 and the base end of each of them is fixed to a fixed plate 22 bonded to the rear plate 3. In the thermal expansion characteristic curve of a metal material constituting the fixed plate 22 and the thermal expansion characteristic curve of a material constituting the rear plate 3, the difference between their thermal expansion coefficients is 5×10-7-15×10-7/ deg.C in a continuous section of more than 70% in the range of ordinary temperature to the sealing work temperature, and the quantitative relationship between both the thermal expansion characteristic curves is not inverted in this section but kept in a fixed condition.
