The insulating element (10,10') has a covered fold part (16,16') on one side and a covering fold part on the other side. The covered fold part is designed in end gutter-side area (18) so that it does not project into the space which lies flush with the area of the covered fold part (16') of an adjoining gutter-side element which is covered in the laid position of the insulating elements by a covering fold element. The insulating element can be laid on rafters to form a lower roof to be covered by roofing panels
