<p>A safety swimwear (10) is provided, having a bodice portion (14), at least one floatation member or bladder (38) and a protective panel (36) securely affixed to the exterior (32) of the bodice portion (14) and holding the bladder (38). The panel (36) is securely affixed to the exterior side (32) of the bodice portion (14) in a manner which draws attention to the presence of the floatation member (38) and/or the level of deflation or inflation of the bladder (38). The panel (36) may be of a contrasting appearance, such as, a contrasting color, texture and/or pattern, against the bodice portion (14) to highlight the presence of the panel (36) and particularly the bladder (38). In an embodiment of the swimsuit (10), two bladders (38) and two panels (36) are provided so that one bladder (38) is securely affixed to a front piece (16) of the swimsuit (10) and another bladder (38) is securely affixed to a back piece (18) of the swimsuit (10). The bladders (38) and thus the panels (36) may be of different configurations. The buoy the wearer (12) in an upright position, the bladders (38) and the panels (36) are positioned on the swimsuit (10) to reside around the chest and back region of the wearer (12). Moreover, the chest bladder (38) may be positioned relatively higher than the back bladder (38). In alternative embodiments, the panel (36) may be securely, but removably, affixed to the bodice portion (14) so that a damaged bladder (38) may be replaced or the panel (36) may accommodate a change in the size or volume of the bladder (38) and/or be changed to a replacement or substitute panel (36).</p> |
