PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a polymer having a specified amt. of long-chain branches introduced into the main chain of the same by forming a polymer in a tubular reactor having a separated stream formed therein and simultaneously bringing the resultant polymer into contact with ethylene and/or anα-olefin for forming the long-chain branches. SOLUTION: 0.1-10 long-chain branches per 1,000 carbon atoms forming a polymer are introduced into the main chain of the polymer. A mixture comprising a feed monomer 2, a polymn. catalyst 3, a monomer 7 for forming long-chain branches, and optionally an inert medium 4 is supplied under pressure through the inlet port 1a of a tubular reactor 1. The mixture forms a gas/liquid separated stream or a gas/liquid/solid separated stream having a continuous gas phase in the flow direction in the tubular reactor 1, and thus, the feed monomer 2 is reacted while the liquid phase in the reactor is transported by the gas phase in the reactor. When the monomer 7 for forming the long-chain branches is the same as the feed monomer 2, the installation of another feed pipe is not necessary.
