PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a stimulable phosphor having an improved stimulable luminescence intensity and improve the stimulable luminescence intensity of an atomized stimulable phosphor having a narrow particle diameter distribution. SOLUTION: This method for producing a stimulable phosphor has the following step: (a) a step to heat a precursor of the stimulable phosphor while exposing it to an atmosphere having oxygen; and (b) a step to obtain the stimulable phosphor by heating the heated precursor wile exposing it to a weakly reducing atmosphere. Preferably, the step (a) is a treatment for heating the precursor while exposing it to an atmosphere at >=300 deg.C and the step (b) is a treatment for heating the precursor while exposing it to a weakly reductive atmosphere at >=600 deg.C.
