PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the end of a swivel base from clashing against obstacles in the case side ditch excavation work or wall side excavation work is carried out. SOLUTION: An excavation section is swung to the maximum in one direction and, at the same time, a swivel base is swung in the opposite direction against the swing direction. In that case, a locus of the rear end of the swivel base is included between a virtual extension line (a) parallel to the outside end of a traveling section 1 and outside end of the traveling section 1 through the outside end of the front end of the excavation section in a state to approximately parallel the extended direction and the outside end of the traveling section 1.
