<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the subject defoaming unit so designed that the flow channel subject to contact with molten glass is made of dense refractory brick and the smoothness of the contact surface of bricks in contact with the adjacent bricks is set at a specified level or lower so as to prevent the molten glass from leaching through the joints. SOLUTION: This molten glass defoaming unit is so designed that, the smoothness of the contact surface of dense bricks constituting an inner surface brick layer 32a representing a flow channel subject to contact with molten glass G with the adjacent bricks is set at <=0.5 mm, and each of the gaps between bricks adjacent to each other at <=1 mm; thus, through mutual contact of bricks without using any joint sealer at the brick contact surface, the above joint gaps are filled with high-viscosity vitreous matter leached at high temperatures from the inside of the dense bricks to effect mutual binding of the bricks; the high-viscosity vitreous matter thus leached stays in the gaps and does not issue; therefore even if the molten glass try to intrude into the gaps, the high-viscosity vitreous matter blocks the action, thereby preventing back-up bricks and a thermal insulation material lying deep in the joints from being eroded.</p> |
