PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively perform the filtration of particles having particle size of a micrometer level with a filter having a simple structure by using as a component of a filter, a porous base material which is to be placed between a water supply port and a water discharge port and is formed by spirally winding a thin sheet member around a central member. SOLUTION: In this filter, a filtration section 1 is provided with a base material 4 placed between a water supply port 2 and a water discharge port 3 and a powder 5 placed on the base material 4, wherein a magnetic powder is used as the powder 5. The base material 4 is formed by spirally winding a tape-like thin sheet member 7 around a central member 6 to enable utilization of the space spirally formed in the base material 4 by the thin sheet member 7 for filtration, and also, provided at the bottom with a holding member 17 for holding the base material 4. In the filtration operation using the filter, when bathtub water is introduced into the water supply port 2, solid particles, etc., in the water are captured and filtered by the powder 5 that is a constituent material of a filter layer and the filtrate water is discharged from the water discharge port 3. At the time of repeatedly performing such filtration and thereby, when clogging of the filter layer is caused, water is passed through the filter layer from the water discharge port 3 to the water supply port 2 like backwashing to wash the base material 4 and the powder 5.
