PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a composition for producing foam capable of exhibiting excellent foaming property and moldability, and suitable for foaming by adding a specific thickener to a biodegradable polylactic acid-based resin so as for the melt viscosity of the composition to increase. SOLUTION: This composition contains (A) 100 pts.wt. polylactic acid-based resin, (B) 0.01-20 pts.wt. thickener (e.g. a multivalent isocyanate, a polybasic acid anhydride, or the like) and (C) 0.1-20 pts.wt. volatile blowing agent (e.g. a hydrocarbon such as ethane and butane, a halogenated hydrocarbon such as methyl chloride, carbonic acid gas, water or the like). The composition is melt-foamed, and a polylactic acid-based foam or sheet both improved in foaming property is obtained. Melt tension in melt-foaming is sufficient and it is possible to produce molded foam in a high expansion ratio.
