PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for taking an image of pillings, capable of easily judging a pilling class in a high accuracy even for test cloths having different hues by taking the image of the test cloths with a line sensor camera while relatively transferring the line sensor camera over the test cloths on which the pillings have been generated under a light source disposed at a specific position. SOLUTION: This method for taking an image of pillings, is to take the image of the pillings by a line sensor camera in a state that the lightness of the pilling part is larger than that of the part without a pilling, while transferring the test cloth such as knit fabric on which pillings have been generated in a direction where the cloth crosses three-dimensionally with the above line sensor camera, with a test cloth transferring means such as an actuator, under a light source disposed at a position of having an incident light at 1-80 deg., preferably 1-10 deg., more preferably 1-5 deg. angle of incidence based on the image taking position directly below the above line sensor camera.
