The three-bladed rotor is mounted on a mast (1). The generator (3) is directly coupled to the hub of the rotor. If wind speeds exceed the safe working range of the windmill, a hydraulic system tilts the rotor from its normal vertical position to a horizontal position. The horizontal position the rotor presents less wind resistance and is less likely to be damaged by high winds.
