Engine thrust with a strain gauge at a trunnion

A system for determining the thrust of an engine such as a jet engine determines the location or locations on an engine trunnion (10) at which the most repeatable strain occurs during use and locates at a strain gauge at the or one or more of these locations. The determination of the location or locations of most repeatable strain can involve applying different strains or different types of strain on the trunnion (10), constraining movement of the trunnion (10) and determining thermal properties of the trunnion (10).
