1320526 Pressure-sensitive transfer element RESEARCH LABORATORIES OF AUSTRALIA PTY Ltd 8 Sept 1970 [15 Sept 1969] 43025/70 Heading D2B A pressure-sensitive transfer element comprises a base sheet provided with an undercoating in the form of a pattern and a top coating of a pressure-transferable pigmented material, the arrangement being such that the pressure transferability of the top coating varies in accordance with the pattern because of the difference in affinity between the top coating and the undercoating and base sheet respectively. The pattern of the undercoating may be applied by a printing technique e.g. screen printing, letterpress printing, flexography. The undercoat material may be one which either assists or inhibits release of the pressure transferable material. Specified undercoat materials include silicones, cellulosic resins, vinyl acetate/acrylic copolymers, polytetrafluoroethylene, fluorinated ethylene-fluorinated propylene copolymers, and molybdenum disulphide. The base sheet may be made of paper. The pressure transferable pigmented material may include a wax, petroleum jelly, non-drying oils and synthetic resins, and a pigment e.g. carbon. |
